For those who are fans of the old school samurai flicks, ala Zatoichi, Seven Samurai, Sanjuro, Yojimbo, all that good old jazz, I present Cinematheque's new festival. A glorious, glorious medley.

Samurai!

Hell, I would go just for the redone subs of Seven Samurai. But there are movies I have never even heard tell of here!
This is the best of the best of old timer Japanese cinema.

Contrary to occasional popular belief, I speak nary a word of japanese. Not even catchphrases

If I'm not mistaken one of the great oldies was a flick called Seven Samurai (1954) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047478/ which I have yet to see. More recently the story was adapted to one of my current favorite Anime's, Samurai 7 http://www.samurai7.tv/ which retained much of the spirit of the original. Whether or not you are a fan of the Anime gendre I think you will enjoy this remake which I'd rate 4 out of 5 stars. Another crazy flick worth a view, Ichii the killer. http://www.ichi-the-killer.com/

Samurai 7 is pretty good. I seem to be a serious Anime Fan though. I hate cutesie stuff.

Cheers
